James S. Holmes

Biography

James Holmes an Associate in Rutherford & Christie’s Atlanta office. He practices civil defense litigation in both state and federal courts, including pro hac appearances across the country. James is an experienced trial attorney with over five years’ experience representing, consulting with, and defending through trial clients ranging from individuals and small businesses, to large corporations. He has practiced in both Missouri and Georgia, where he is currently licensed.

Prior to law school, James obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy from Samford University’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy, and practiced as a pharmacist before returning to school to study the law. James earned his J.D. from St. Louis University School of law, where he graduated in the top 7% of his class. After graduation, he started work in civil defense in St. Louis, Missouri, where he practiced for nearly three years, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, where he has continued his work in civil defense for the last two years.

James has obtained summary judgment and partial summary judgment in cases where plaintiffs were seeking damages in the five-and-six figure ranges. James has also obtained excellent results in jury trials around the metro Atlanta area, securing defense verdicts in disputed liability cases and verdicts well below the defendant’s final settlement offer in damages cases where liability was admitted.

James has represented clients in product liability, premises liability, negligent security, automobile accident and trucking, dram shop, and maritime personal injury case, in both Missouri and Georgia, taking the cases from the pre-suit investigation phase through mediation and jury trial. James seeks to provide the highest-quality legal services by conducting thorough investigations of every case, and crafting creative solutions using all legal avenues to protect the interests of his clients.

James also assists victims of domestic violation in matters involving protective orders and other protective measures through the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, Safe and Stable Families Team.
